Disaster Recovery & Microbial Control in Medical Facilities

September 13, 2011 by Disaster Restoration Singapore

With drug resistant microorganisms, immunosuppressed patients, and the normal occurrence and movement of microorganisms in and out of buildings by everyday activities, medical facilities are clearly in need of the ÆGIS Microbe Shield™ Treatment.

Add flood water, backed up sewers, loss of power, extended periods of high humidity, and the need to quickly restore full services, the ÆGIS Microbe Shield Treatment goes from being needed to being critical. Critical for the quick and effective control of the today and tomorrow problems associated with environmentally sourced microorganisms. Problems of microbial contamination in normal and disaster  situations range from loss of building materials and furnishings to human health consequences.

The value to you, your staff, and your patients is best verified by the real-world flood restoration of a 12-story cancer hospital:

Case Study: Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Research Institute, Ohio State University

Problem: Two weeks before its scheduled grand opening in January, 1990, a roof level water pipe froze and flooded the twelve story building with an estimated 500,000 gallons of water. By day seven a musty odor was present. By week three there was gross fungal contamination. Active fungal growth was clearly visible on most surfaces of the lower floors. Because of the contamination, university and hospital officials considered demolishing the new structure.

Solution: The ÆGIS Microbe Shield™ Program.

Working with the general contractor, all accessible surfaces and furnishings were treated with ÆGIS™ Antimicrobial. Wall cavities and inaccessible areas were sealed. No materials of construction or furnishings were replaced except those that were physically destroyed by the water.
