Yarn Contaminated with Soot and Mold

September 12, 2011 by Disaster Restoration Singapore

Background

An electrical fire broke out in a textile factory in Malaysia. The yarn was badly contaminated with soot and damaged by smoke. Due to the water used by emergency service to extinguish the fire seeping into the yarn and creating humid conditions, mold started growing in no time. Disaster Restoration Singapore (DRS) was called in by the insurers six months later to see if we could mitigate and restore the contaminated yarn to its pre-loss condition.

Solutions Provided

DRS took up the challenge to restore the yarn to its pre-loss condition by doing reverse engineering, mold speciation and identification and eventual removal of mold. Having successfully done so, DRS is proud to be the first disaster restoration company in the world to successfully restore yarn to pre-loss condition after soot and mold damage.

Impact

As a result of DRS’s efforts, the insurers saved millions of dollars in claims payouts and the yarn was returned in good condition to the owners. The insured company also benefitted in not having to pay increased insurance premiums. DRS also cemented its position as one of the most innovative and effective restoration specialists for being the first in the world to restore mold and soot damaged yarn to its pre-loss condition.
